Is equipment provided?

Yes, for all packages at our Biarritz surf school, we provide boards and wetsuits fitted to your experience and size (except for the surf guide which is optional). We have high quality Rip Curl wetsuits which are washed daily for cleanliness.

What will I need during my stay?

Everyday beach clothes and sportswear for the length of your stay. You will also need a sleeping bag, bath and beach towels. We strongly recommend a hat and sun block as you will be spending a large portion of your time outdoors in Biarritz surf camps and during lessons in the sun.

Who is in charge of surf lessons?

You will be trained by fully qualified instructors and lifeguards in groups of a maximum of 8 people. (see “The Team”) In Biarritz surf lessons are carried out on the Cote des Basques where there are special areas for surfing.

How many lessons are there per day?

The number of lessons depends on the package (see “package”). Generally it will be 1-2 lessons.

What if I’m a beginner?

Our school proposes complete beginner as well as intermediate or advanced surf and bodyboard sessions. The range of beaches in the area means that there is always a suitable location close by for all categories of surfers.
Our instructors have experience in all of these areas so don’t worry if you’ve never surfed before!

How old do you have to be to start surfing?

You can start surfing as early as 7 years old and there is no age limit for surfing. The only condition is to be able to swim. For the surf and accommodation packages, you must be over 14.

Can I start surfing as an adult?

Of course you can! We have suitable equipment for all ages. For the rest, it’s a matter of being fit enough and having the will to keep practicing.

Do I need insurance?

You must take out a civil liability insurance against the risks of surf practicing. You must also be able to swim 25 metres and have no health problems.

Is Surftraining open all year round?

We open around Easter time, usually around April, and the season finishes up in November. Please contact us for more details.

What happens between the lessons during a week session?

For teenagers younger than 18, free time is supervised by a team of qualified activity leaders. Spare time is dedicated to a well-deserved rest or to different activities such as beach volleyball, bowling, shopping, swimming or lazing on the beach.

Activities also vary according to surfing events scheduled by the city of Biarritz (competitions, film/surf screenings). The same goes for evenings: they are always organized and supervised by activity leaders and depend on what participants want to do.

What time are lessons scheduled?

Lessons are scheduled according to high and low tide times, the quality of the waves and swell conditions. The best waves are in the middle of high and low tide.

Are there special rates for groups?

Yes, we can get you a rate tailored to your needs. For more information please contact us.
